Kiln-forming Projects and Techniques

Ever wanted to make your own bathroom or kitchen accent tiles? Now you can! On Day 1, you will learn to airbrush stencil mica powders onto glass tiles. Then you'll sift blended glass powders over the tiles and fire them in a kiln. On Day 2 you lightly sandblast etch the surface prior to a last, light firepolish. You will leave the workshop with six, soft-matte finish, 4" square, 1/4" thick glass tiles!

Come make a little solid glass box with a lid out of frit (crushed glass) in this one-day workshop. These boxes are perfect for holding your trinkets and treasures or giving as gifts. Anyone can make a beautiful box the very first time with our Colour de Verre glass box molds. Choose from heart, kidney bean, ellipse, rectangle, or round shapes in a rainbow of colors. You can also fancy up your box by making a handle or lid decoration in either our Small Glass Powder Sculpture workshop (aka as the Freeze and Fuse technique) or the Small Cast Sculpture workshop (which also uses ceramic molds).

Using beautiful dichroic glass, learn to compose glass slabs for cutting into earrings, pendants, bracelets and pins. On Day 1 you design and fuse your slab. On Day 2 you cut and cold-work it, and decide how you will finish the individual pieces (set as a pendant, as earrings, etc.)
No experience necessary. Appropriate for ages 12 and up. On Day 1 you cast the various shapes of large cast glass beads which will serve as the focal points in your necklace. This workshop combines the techniques of pot melts and screen melts and takes them to a new level of sophistication. On Day 1, you design and layer loose glass over a kiln shelf so that it melts and flows onto the shelf creating its own unique pattern in a 12" diameter, 1/4" thick glass disc. Day 2 is for VA Bosse - Schönste Zeit download mp3 coldworking (grinding the edge) the piece preparatory to slumping it into a dish or fire-polishing the edges for a tile.

On Day 1 of this workshop, you design your own 1/8" (3mm) thick sheet glasses from glass powders, stringers and frit. On Day 2, you cut your sheets into Michael Buble I Got It Easy mp3 download squares that you use to design an 8” plate or tile. Trade your tiles with your classmates for greatest variety.

Cast 1-3 small 3-dimensional sculptures out of crushed glass. Keep your little figures or incorporate them into a later project--like a lid decoration or a handle for a cast glass box. Can also be fused to a plate or tile for more dimensional effect.

 Duration: 1 hour

Make small 3-dimensional sculptures out of glass powder and water in apparent defiance of the laws of physics! This technique, also known as freeze and fuse, has class participants mix a slurry of glass powder and water in silicon ice cube trays and candy molds which we then pop into the freezer. After they are frozen solid, they are de-molded onto a kiln shelf and fused in the kiln. Instead of melting into little puddles of glass on the kiln shelf, they keep their shapes. Why-ever it works, we're happy it does, and you will be too. Keep your little figures or incorporate them into a SOS Band Discography later project--like lid decoration/a handle for our cast glass box class!

If you are a detail-oriented, meticulous person, this workshop is for you. Learn to cut ¼” wide strips of glass that you then stand on edge across the width of the piece. Coldwork—cut and grind--the piece on Day 2 before slumping it.

If you’ve ever wanted your own fabulous glass sink, this class is for you. Regardless of your level of experience, you will design and create your own 20” round fused glass bowl. At the end of the workshop, you can either download Leonard Cohen The Collection free leave the piece as a bowl, or drill it out so that it is ready to be installed as a sink. (Drilling scheduled with the instructor as a one-on-one.)
